“With Your Wings” by John Steinbeck Published for the First Time in The Strand Magazine

“With Your Wings”, a previously unpublished short story by John Steinbeck, has been published for the first time in the November-February (XLIV 2014) issue of the The Strand Magazine. The story, which is about an African American pilot’s return to the American South after WWII, was discovered by The Strand editor, Andrew Gulli, in the archives of the Ransom Library at the University of Texas. Mr. Gulli speaks about the story and the research that uncovered it in an interview with Arun Rath on NPR’s All Things Considered here.
